Samsung Pay FAQs

  1. What is Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay is a digital payment solution that allows you to use your compatible device to pay instead of swiping your card at the card reader. Samsung Pay is accepted at any US merchant where you can swipe or tap a card. Samsung Pay works at merchants who are NFC-enabled and at traditional mag stripe terminals, resulting in a 90%+ acceptance rate.

  2. What makes this payment method different than using a plastic card?

Samsung Pay is a contactless payment method that allows you to use your device to pay by hovering it near the terminal instead of swiping your plastic card. Samsung Pay also uses a device account number (called a token) that is provided to the merchant instead of your card number.

  3. Where can customers use Samsung Pay?

Almost anywhere. If a merchant terminal is NFC-enabled, Samsung Pay will use this method first and then Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) next. MST does not require the merchant to make any changes to their terminals.

  4. What credit or debit cards can I use with Samsung Pay?

Visa consumer and small business credit cards and debit cards can be added to Samsung Pay. Commercial cards and gift cards are not eligible to be added at this time.

  5. Which devices can I use with Samsung Pay?

The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge, or Galaxy S6 devices are compatible with Samsung Pay.

  6. How do I add my card to Samsung Pay?
    1. Open the Samsung Pay app on your Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge, or Galaxy S6 device.
    2. Add your credit or debit card by taking a picture or manually entering the card information.
    3. Agree to the Terms of Use.
    4. You may be asked to contact the Customer Care number on the back of your card to verify your identity before you are able to use your card.
  7. How do I set a default card to pay?

Samsung Pay does not have a default card, but the last card used or viewed will be the default card displayed at the terminal. You can scroll through your payment cards and select the one you want to use for payment.

  8. Once a card is added to Samsung Pay, how can I remove it from my phone?

You can remove the card in the Samsung Pay app by selecting the card, tapping the “i” icon, and selecting “Delete Card” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

  9. How do I pay with Samsung Pay?

To pay using Samsung Pay, simply swipe up from the Home button to display your card, place the device next the card reader, and touch the Home button to verify your identity (or enter your PIN if you are using Samsung Pay PIN). The card reader may prompt you to complete the transaction. For example, if you are using a debit card, you may be asked to enter your PIN number.

  10. Where can I use Samsung Pay?

You can use Samsung Pay at US merchant that accepts Visa credit or debit cards where you would have traditionally swiped or tapped your card to pay. (Note that some locations, such as gas pumps, do not currently accept Samsung Pay.) For more information can be found here.

  11. Is Samsung Pay secure?

Samsung Pay is a more secure way to pay because every transaction is initiated by your unique fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN. Your card information is never stored by the merchant and the card number is encrypted.

  12. What if I lose my device?

If you lose your device, your card cannot be accessed to make purchases without your fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN. Contact the Customer Care number on the back of your card immediately. You may also want to contact your carrier to report your device as lost or stolen.

  13. Are my Samsung Pay purchases covered by Zero Liability Fraud Coverage?

Yes. Zero Liability coverage applies to any fraudulent purchases made with your credit or debit card, including those made through Samsung Pay.

  14. Will I still earn rewards and benefits from my card when I pay using Samsung Pay?

Absolutely! You’ll get all the benefits and protections that your credit or debit card provides. If you currently earn rewards on purchases, you’ll continue to earn them for purchases made with Samsung Pay.

  15. Is Samsung Pay free to use?

Yes. Charges from your mobile carrier may apply, depending on your data plan.

  16. How will I know a transaction was successful?

After completing a payment using Samsung Pay, confirmation will appear in Samsung Pay if notifications are enabled.

  17. Will I be able to see a history of my transactions made with Samsung Pay?

Your most recent card purchases are available in the Samsung Pay app. Also, “SamPay” will be appended to all completed Samsung Pay transactions on your statement.

  18. How can I learn more about Samsung Pay?

Learn more here or call the number on the back of your card.
