DON JULIO FOODS
In 1938, Manuel Torres started making his own corn tortillas with one small tortilla press. He steadily grew his business, later expanding into tortilla chips. Today, his company, Manuel’s Fine Foods Inc., the owner of Don Julio Foods in Woods Cross, is a multistate operation in its third generation of family ownership.
Don Julio Foods has steadily increased its market presence with products now sold in Utah, Idaho, California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. Greg Bingham, executive sales manager, says this growth is a result of the company’s top quality products, local ownership, strong reputation and brand recognition throughout its core market.
The top-selling item at Don Julio Foods is tortilla chips in various sizes, cuts and flavors. However, since acquiring the 70-year-old Clover Club Foods brand, the company sells other types of chips as well and continues delivering flour and corn tortillas daily to locations throughout Utah.
The plant where Don Julio Foods manufactures its products opened seven years ago, but Bingham says it’s already outgrowing the space. An expansion in progress will almost double the size of the plant to 125,000 square feet. Company owners are proud to provide jobs for 65 employees. Don Julio has come a long way from its humble beginning.
