Speaking on Business: Bear Lake Ice
Bear Lake Ice is a second-generation ice manufacturing and delivery operation providing bagged ice and blocks of ice.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
As a locally-owned ice manufacturing operator, Brandon Carlsen of Bear Lake Ice has distinguished himself in an industry dominated by large corporations by his dedication to serving his customers. This means if someone calls him at 9 p.m. to say they’re out of ice, he will be there first thing the next morning to make sure they’re taken care of. This has built a loyal customer base that spans five counties in Idaho and Utah, where he supplies bagged ice to convenience stores and grocery stores, plus shaved ice shacks.
Bear Lake Ice is a second-generation ice manufacturing and delivery operation providing bagged ice and blocks of ice, located in the beautiful Bear Lake Valley. The company was founded by Ivan Leonhardt, Brandon’s father-in-law, and Brandon worked there all through high school. He and his wife, Lori, bought Bear Lake Ice and now operate it together, with Brandon handling day-to-day operations including delivery, while Lori takes care of the books.
Right now, they’re gearing up for their busy summer season, when ice sales skyrocket with the over 100,000 visitors who come to the Bear Lake Valley every year. During this time, the Bear Lake Ice team grows from 2 to 15 employees to keep up with demand.
