Nate Millecom and Randy Dunn are perfect business partners for Electric Power Systems. Nate has a business marketing and project management background and Randy is the engineer and manages development. It’s clearly a winning combination since their company now has 35 associates in three years and projects to increase to 80 team members this year.
This innovative Logan-based aerospace engineering company builds electric propulsion systems that incorporate batteries and thermal management to create all-electric or hybrid-electric systems for airplanes. So, picture a flying Prius, Tesla or Chevy Volt with an onboard generator that charges the battery while in flight, so it powers the motors and propellers. Electric Power Systems are saving fuel and creating an environmentally-friendly aviation equipment.
After getting his MBA, Nate had an opportunity to be in the leadership track for Honeywell, a leader in aerospace. He was given numerous high-profile projects, including developing a lithium ion battery for the Boeing 787. After working for a large company, Nate and Randy decided to spin out the battery product line to create Electric Power Systems and have now incorporated their own intellectual property which is enabling new X-planes for NASA. They also built an electric propulsion lab at USU that has been successful in developing this electric propulsion system.
