The Code to Success Program has expanded this year and will now be offered in rural areas throughout the state, thanks to grants and donations. This program was created to provide summer bootcamps for high-school aged students to learn coding. This job skill is in high demand, and it’s estimated that by 2020 there will be 1.4 million computer science jobs available in the U.S. Code to Success is addressing the need, and since launching 4 years ago, approximately 2,000 students have participated.

Rick Folkerson, president of the Success in Education Foundation which manages the program, says coding increases students’ earning potential exponentially because so many coding jobs are available. Code to Success is bridging the gap between education and industry by introducing students to programming. The rural initiative is an important way to strengthen the economy outside the Wasatch Front.

Code to Success is an intensive course that teaches students HTML, CSS, JavaScript and REACT over a nine-week program. While the program is classroom-based, they’re creating an online option and during this year’s bootcamp, which runs from June 10 to July 19, students can hear from virtual speakers from organizations like Apple, Domo and MX who will cover industry trends and how students’ educational pathway can put them on track to developing a great career.
