Speaking on Business: Deli George
Deli George sells original sandwiches and potato and pasta salad made in house.

How about trying a 100-year-old sauerkraut recipe at Deli George in Boise? It’s a German/European deli in downtown Boise serving lunch daily. This deli sells original sandwiches and potato and pasta salad made in house. Owner Steve Rodriguez uses only the finest ingredients, like filet mignon for the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, which they call Boise Cheesesteak. A few months ago, he started offering a tri-tip special made with smoked meat and it’s so popular, it sells out every day.
It’s not surprising that Deli George has a loyal lunchtime crowd, but they’re also popular for corporate catering, with boxed lunches, platters, salads and big bowls of potato, pasta or traditional salad. They work extensively with nearby Boise State University and have done quite a bit of catering for the football and basketball programs.
It was just two years ago that Steve decided to make a major career change, from educator to deli owner. He wanted something different, and after finding Deli George for sale, he bought it. Under his ownership it’s growing exponentially and was recently voted Best Deli in Boise and second in the Treasure Valley. He says at the center of this organization are his 8 employees.
