Speaking on Business: Compass Rose Lodge
Compass Rose Lodge is a boutique hotel with 15 rooms designed to honor the area’s farming and skiing heritage.

After discovering the picturesque Huntsville, Bonnie and Jeff Hyde fell in love with the charming town. They’ve spent the last 20 years building out the historic Huntsville Square, where they own property, and their latest addition is Compass Rose Lodge, a boutique hotel with 15 rooms designed to honor the area’s farming and skiing heritage.
This beautiful property has king or queen rooms and is only the second hotel in the United States to have an observatory. Bonnie and Jeff created this state-of-the-art observatory with a massive 16-inch aperture, for stargazing. It’s so impressive, they had interest from around the world for the recent Blood Moon Eclipse. You can find images on the Compass Rose Lodge page on Facebook.
In just a short time of opening, Bloomberg named Compass Rose Lodge as one of the top 12 ski hotels in the world, and that list includes major resorts so this is an important recognition. It’s also been featured in the American Express Departures Magazine.
This is a family operation with Jeff, Bonnie and their sons Dakota and River all involved. The Compass Rose Lodge includes facilities to host weddings, corporate retreats and family reunions and it’s already booking for the summer. And there’s a coffee shop inside the hotel, First Lift Coffee, that has been a hit.
