Speaking on Business: Betsy Couture
Betsy Couture creates custom, original and vintage wedding gowns, designed, hand sewn and made by owner Betsy Barker herself.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Betsy Barker was a kid when she first learned to sew, and in the years since, she’s turned her talent into a bridal shop where she creates custom, original and vintage wedding gowns, designed, hand sewn and made by Betsy herself. Each dress is unique and based on what the bride envisions for her special day.
Brides fly into Salt Lake City from all over the United States to meet with Betsy for their custom-designed Betsy Couture gown. She goes to New York and Los Angeles several times a year to hand select the materials used in her gowns, which have been shown at Paris Fashion Week. She’s also supporting the fashion design program at Salt Lake Community College by hiring interns every semester. She launched a line called Lizzy slips that are top sellers.
Sometimes a Betsy Couture dress is a brand-new gown created for the occasion and sometimes it means redesigning a mother’s or grandmother’s gown. Betsy has a gallery on her website showcasing gowns she has redesigned for her brides. She loves taking a piece of history and creating it to become another legacy piece.
Betsy says this is a very relationship-oriented business, so she works to provide a personalized experience for every bride who comes to Betsy Couture.
