Speaking on Business: McDonald’s Expansion
McDonald’s corporation and local franchisees are investing $25 million in Utah to update over 37 restaurants.

Cory Watson literally grew up in the food service business. His father, Allen Watson, started working at McDonald’s in 1978, and bought his first franchise in 1991. Cory remembers cleaning tables, washing dishes and working throughout his teenage years. Today, he and his dad are the owner/operators of 22 restaurants across the Wasatch Front and he serves as president of the Intermountain Co-op of McDonald’s operators.
Right now McDonald’s and local franchisees are investing $25 million in Utah to update over 37 restaurants. The goal is to modernize the restaurants with digital ordering, like self-service kiosks, digital menu boards and the option to order on your phone. They’ve also partnered with Uber Eats to offer a food delivery service for several locations up and down the Wasatch Front and are committed to hire local construction companies when possible.
This is a major restaurant operation for Cory with approximately 1,000 employees, and he loves how every day is different and filled with new challenges, opportunities and success stories. As a corporation, McDonald’s embraces being involved with the local community, like providing first jobs for people, sponsoring education initiatives through the Archways Opportunity program and providing tuition assistance.
