Speaking on Business: Artistic Mill
Artistic Mill fabricates custom cabinets for commercial clients.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
It took courage for Von Wells to quit his full-time job on a single construction contract for custom cabinetry to open his own shop. His first location was in his father-in-law’s burned out warehouse in Salt Lake City. Von was freezing all winter long as he built cabinets. But persistence paid off, and this was the humble beginnings of Artistic Mill.
Today, Artistic Mill is celebrating its 40 years of being in business, with three generations involved, including Von’s son, Eric Wells, and 45 full-time staff with multiple warehouse locations in Murray to house the growing custom cabinetry operation. Von says they have three divisions at Artistic Mill where they fabricate custom cabinets for commercial clients, and in the last three years, they opened a division focused on providing granite and quartz countertops, which they fabricate themselves. Their quality of work at Artistic Mill is well known, and they’ve developed relationships with large and small contractors, including some of the biggest names in the business, like Layton, Big D and Oakland.
While the focus for their custom cabinetry at Artistic Mill is commercial customers, they have accounts with large residential cabinet manufacturers as well, so they make and install cabinets for a handful of residential homebuilders in Utah.
