Speaking on Business: Soroptimist International of Boise
Soroptimist International is motivated to encourage women, especially by providing access to education as the most effective path to self-sufficiency.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
A recent study from Refinery29 and Chase found that women are now the primary breadwinners in 40 percent of households in the U.S., which includes single moms providing for their children. So, organizations like Soroptimist International are motivated to encourage women, especially by providing access to education as the most effective path to self-sufficiency. This volunteer organization with over 80,000 Soroptimists in 130 countries is working to transform the lives of women and girls by supporting community-based and global projects.
The signature event is the annual Live Your Dream Awards, educational grants given to women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families and are seeking financial assistance for their education. Soroptimist International of Boise is currently accepting applications for the Live Your Dream Awards through Nov. 15.
Jolene Anderson has been involved with Soroptimist International of Boise for 22 years, and last year served as president of the Boise Club, which started in 1940. She understands how critical this support can be because she was a single mom of 2 girls when she was recruited to join Soroptimist International and loves the connection to a global organization focused on uplifting women and girls.
