Speaking on Business: Stadler Rail
Stadler Rail is known for their work in producing some of the best trains in the world, with a state-of-the-art safety system.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
The Swiss transportation system is considered one of the best in the world, in terms of design and effectiveness. And after getting a major manufacturing contract in the United States, Swiss-based train manufacturer Stadler Rail knew it was time to open their U.S. operation. They selected Utah based upon our strong economy, political climate and commitment to public transportation. And in just 15 months, they’ve hired almost 140 employees and broke ground on their own facility last fall.
Martin Ritter, head of the U.S. operation said Stadler Rail is known for their state-of-the-art safety system, designed to absorb crash energy in case of an accident. Since their trains are made out of aluminum, they’re lighter, don’t use as much energy and can accelerate more quickly. Stadler Rail is forward thinking in terms of reducing pollution and their impact on the environment, and they’re including the newest and lightest exhaust system in train systems they manufacture.
Since opening in Utah, Stadler Rail has successfully delivered 3 train sets with 5 more under construction, and they recently signed a $550 million contract in California. This was a driver for Stadler Rail in creating their permanent 250,000 square foot facility by the Salt Lake City International Airport, now under construction.
