Speaking on Business: Idaho Innovation Center
The Idaho Innovation Center is a one-stop shop for start-up businesses.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
As the director of the Idaho Innovation Center and a business owner, Bryan Magleby loves what he does because he sees new companies being created every day. As the only business incubator in Eastern Idaho, it’s designed to house and support small businesses working towards a launch. It’s so successful the center has 95 percent occupancy with a waiting list of entrepreneurs who want to get in.
The Idaho Innovation Center is a one stop shop for start-up business, with 35 offices and 16 bays home to an auto mechanic shop, dance studio and a coffee roaster. In fact, one of their tenants, Advanced Ceramic Fibers, was named as Innovator of the Year for the state of Idaho in 2017. The idea is for new companies to stay 3 to 5 years, depending on their type of business. The Idaho Innovation Center has strategic partners including the SBDC or Small Business Development Center, SCORE and the Regional Development Alliance to help mentor small business owners.
Bryan says the property where the Idaho Innovation Center is located has extra acreage, so his vision is to build it out. The expansion would include co-working space, a commercial kitchen and a full entrepreneurial center with the goal to create a team to collaborate with entrepreneurs from Pocatello to Rexburg.
