Speaking on Business: Salt Lake International Airport
The Salt Lake City International Airport is undergoing one of the largest air travel infrastructure projects nationwide.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
In Utah, we’re home to a thriving airport that serves 23 million passengers annually with over 300 daily flights … in a facility originally designed to serve less than half that number. With forward-thinking leadership from our transportation department, the Salt Lake City International Airport is now undergoing one of the largest air travel infrastructure projects in the nation. And since Delta serves 70 percent of the airport’s passengers, through their hub in Salt Lake City, the airline stepped in and is providing millions of dollars to fund construction
This nearly $4 billion airport reconstruction project at the Salt Lake City International Airport is well underway. This is a significant project that will boost the Utah economy, especially since it helps us stay connected globally, with international direct flights. Concrete pillars for the new 908,000 square foot main terminal and parking deck are in place. Not to mention, the steel outlines for the South Concourse are also set.
This project is employing nearly 1,000 construction workers throughout the 300-acre construction site. And the best part is — the Salt Lake City International Airport will remain fully functional throughout construction, with little or no disruption to flights or passengers until the new airport is complete in 2023.
