Speaking on Business: CLAS Ropes
CLAS Ropes is one of the state’s largest and most extensive ropes course facilities.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
It was a bold move in 1993 when Benjamin Allen quit his job, bought 3 acres of land along the Provo River and built Challenging Leadership Adventure Systems, or CLAS, his ropes course facility, in partnership with his wife, Melanie. As a recreation therapist with a master’s degree, the goal was to provide youth and families a place to learn the team building, trust and problem-solving skills that come while participating in hands-on outdoor recreation.
With a lot of hard work, today CLAS Ropes is one of the state’s largest and most extensive ropes course facilities. You’ll find all kinds of recreation activities like climbing towers, zip lines, giant swings that take you 40 feet in the air or the “leap of faith” where you stand on a high platform and jump onto a trapeze. It’s enough recreation you could spend a couple days without doing the same activity twice! They host all types of people from youth conference and family reunions to corporate, therapy or religious groups.
CLAS Ropes has taken off, and they’re so popular, Ben opened a second facility near Eden and will open a third course at Big Rock Candy Mountain this summer. He also inspects and trains for over 70 ropes courses and zip lines nationwide.
