Speaking on Business: Utah Royals FC
The Utah Royals are the first world-class women's soccer team in Utah.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
When a fellow professional sports owner called and talked to Dell Loy Hansen, owner of Real Salt Lake, last November, he said the National Women’s Soccer League needs him, and he saw opportunity. Dell Loy is motivated by a big goal: to build the No. 1 professional women’s sports team in the world. Period. Just a few months later, the Utah Royals FC started their first season strong with over 5,000 season ticket holders and a sold-out crowd of 19,000 for their inaugural game.
The Utah Royals are the first world-class women’s soccer team in Utah, and the club has quickly become a destination for international and domestic soccer stars that is developing a strong following to fill Rio Tinto Stadium. Dell Loy was so driven by the goal of his team’s success that he hired Laura Harvey, one of the most effective coaches in National Women’s Soccer League history, to lead the team. He demonstrates his commitment by building a $1 million state-of-the-art locker room for the Royals while the club is establishing their fan base.
Chief Business Officer Andy Carroll says it was a quick turnaround from the team’s purchase in Winter 2017 until the launch this spring, but we have embraced the Utah Royals FC, and thousands of us attend each game.
