As mechanical engineers by trade, Troy Nielsen and DeVaun Crane have always been interested in building, and at the top of their list was to improve trailers for hauling and recreation. During a family get-together, they started talking about how to offer better operating trailers at a great price point and discovered a line made of aluminum. This became Silverwing Trailers, which launched in April 2017.
Silverwing Trailers has an impressive line of aluminum trailers that come in a variety of sizes. One of the most popular styles is 5 feet by 9 feet, folds in half and has a rooftop tent portion. It’s sold through Costco for about $2000 and is so popular, they’re shipping nationwide. The 6 by 14 is exactly the size to haul a UTV or canoes.
The benefit of aluminum is that it’s lighter than steel, doesn’t rust, is less sensitive to weather exposure, plus it’s completely recyclable. Troy and DeVaun took their design up a notch to offer extra features like a tool strap box and options for more accessories like an optional rock shield for the back gate. Silverwing Trailers built a 24,000-square-foot facility in Grace where they construct and ship out all the trailers, which are so popular, they’re expecting growth of 300 percent.
