Speaking on Business: Benchmark Books
Benchmark Books is known for their extensive collection of rare books, documents, and other collectibles.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
When it comes to collecting rare book materials, Curt Bench of Benchmark Books will go the distance. This includes continuing the search for the requested item, especially very rare books, for years, and it’s a reason his company just celebrated their 30th anniversary.
Benchmark Books is known for their extensive collection of books, documents and other collectibles, although rare books are the top seller. Their niche is Western and Utah titles, books in the field of Mormon studies, and you’ll also find and some of the latest books from university professors and publishers.
In the 30 plus years he has been in the book selling business, Curt has seen a lot of change. The trend currently is younger generations being less interested in book collecting. However, Curt says it’s a perfect time to be in the market because there’s less collectors, so you can find great items for a better price, and Benchmark Books remains committed to serving the rare book market.
Curt will never forget the experience when he bought a rare copy of the LDS Book of Commandments, from the early days of the LDS Church. Only 29 copies exist, and he sold it for $21,000. Later the same book sold for over $1 million.
