While the first word most babies say is “Mom” or “Dad”, Max Monahan always jokes his first was “car”, because it’s his lifelong profession. As a freshman in high school, he got a job at a local dealership, not realizing at the time he had found his true passion. Now, Max is the owner of Modern Classic Autos in Boise, which imports and sells classic European cars.
At Modern Classic Autos, you’ll find names you’re probably familiar with, like Alfa Romeo, Porsche and Maserati with others that might not be as well known, like Lancia (Lan-see-uh). Max loves having the opportunity to bring in European cars that people in the U.S. that are unique. His inventory includes classic and modern classic cars that you wouldn’t find at a regular dealership.
This is a hot market, and data from the Historic Automobile Club International shows rare collectible cars have actually outperformed the S&P 500 index by nearly 8 times from 2005 to 2015 with class car sales topping $1.45 billion in North America in 2015. Max sells his cars through Classified ads, his website, modernclassicautos.com, and through his dealership location at 1170 W. President’s Dr. in Boise.
