Speaking on Business: CleanFare
CleanFare is a mobile app to encourage people to use alternative transit outside of a personal vehicle.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Sam Hirsh has always felt strongly about the environment and, as he says, it’s impossible to live in Utah without seeing the issue of pollution. A lifelong resident of the Beehive State, he wanted to do something about the air quality, so while in high school, he participated in a business competition where he developed the idea for CleanFare, which launched a year ago.
CleanFare is a mobile app to encourage people to use alternative transit outside of a personal vehicle. You use the app to track trips or commutes, and the app tracks how many miles and carbon emissions you’re saving by using other forms of transportation. As you build miles, you earn badges and milestones and can compete with friends and loved ones. Sam is also working to build relationships with local businesses and offers discounts with three businesses on the U campus, so you can save money while saving miles.
Since launching the CleanFare mobile app, Sam says word is spreading and he has started to increase his marketing efforts so more people know about it. Students are his primary target market right now with many who use public transportation to get to and from school; however, he also sees possibilities with professionals, especially those who love adopting new technology.
