Provo City Mayor Michelle Kaufusi comes from a hardworking family of 7 siblings and has been earning a paycheck since she was 15. She loves serving as mayor of the city named as No. 1 in the United States, and says no two days are ever the same, since everything that comes through her door must be resolved.

Michelle came into the mayoral office in a unique situation because the previous mayor, John Curtis, had to step out early to fill his congressional position. Instead of 12 weeks of job shadowing, she had 30 minutes. Michelle loves Provo and says she came into the position at a great time, when the economy is on an upswing, with her goal to build on this momentum.

One of her major concerns is thoughtful and strategic growth for Provo. She wants to have the infrastructure in place, like her key initiative for the Provo Safety Facility bond that will be on the ballot come November to rebuild the police and fire station. It was built to last 20 years, and they’re at 48 years, and the team of 107 has long outgrown the current facility. Michelle says she’s in it to do what’s right for her community with a city we will continue to be proud of.
