Speaking on Business: GOED
GOED, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, is focused on economic development and addressing the education platform for the state of Utah.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Val Hale, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, or GOED, is focused on economic development and addressing the education platform for the state of Utah. They see their mission as improving our quality of life by diversifying the state economy, providing tax relief, helping Utah businesses expand and bringing high-paying jobs into the state. With only a handful of staff members, this 13-year-old organization is doing amazing work, like assisting creating a global inland port in Salt Lake City and supporting a major expansion on the Salt Lake City International Airport.
GOED oversees approximately 20 programs like the Technology Commercialization Vision Program, PTAC and the Utah Office of Tourism, which brings billions of tourism dollars into the state every year. GOED is also working with the newly-created Office of Outdoor Recreation, a state fund the Legislature created, the first of its kind in the nation, where Utah communities so far have applied for infrastructure and recreation grants. The governor, GOED and the business community are focused on rural economic development with strategic meetings planned.
Val serves with Governor Herbert as a senior economic advisor, and brings perspective with GOED’s involvement in overseeing international trade and diplomacy, hosting political figures visiting Utah and promoting STEM education.
