Speaking on Business: Premier Technologies
Premier Technologies is a large-scale fabrication shop offering custom-made products.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Right now is a great time to be in business in Idaho because the Gem State is the fastest-growing state in the nation, according to Bloomberg’s Economic Evaluation of the States. Doug and Shelly Sayer say the Idaho economy has been a critical element of the successful business they own together, Premier Technologies in Blackfoot, a large- fabrication shop offering custom-made products.
Shelly has a background as a nuclear chemist and is the current CEO while Doug was an outfitter and a guide before starting the business. He loved the lifestyle but found it could be tricky in the offseason, so, one year with money he saved during elk season and funds borrowed from family, he took out a $30,000 loan, bought a pickup truck and launched Premier Technologies.
In short, customers bring designs for large pieces of equipment to Premier Technologies and the team facilitates with design, engineering and manufacturing. Doug says one of the secrets to their success is being vertically integrated because it creates customer satisfaction, increases efficiencies and better cost control, not to mention the ability to handle scheduling and the completion of projects. In the 22 years since its launch, the company has grown to include 300 employees in a 250,000-square-foot facility in Blackfoot.
