Speaking on Business: Novo Mentoring
Novo Mentoring is facilitating mentor relationships between high school and junior high athletes as they transition to the next level.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Joe Cooper was working with adolescent athletes when he started wondering about the impact it could have if these kids had a mentor to guide them. So, he thought, why not build a company that would facilitate mentor relationships, starting with high school athletes? And with that inspiration in mind, he created Novo Mentoring in Layton. Within 18 months of launching the company, it’s already serving students throughout the state.
Novo Mentoring is dedicated to creating mentor relationships designed to help high school and junior high athletes as they transition to the next level and pairs each athlete with a recent or current athlete, who can share insights and advice, especially with increased expectations and academic needs. Research has shown how powerful a mentor or role model can be, for a child or youth, especially during critical development stages, and this is what inspired Joe as he created his business.
Joe has been spreading the word about Novo Mentoring through social media, and it’s taking off! Interest in the program has come inside and outside the state. Mentors take careful notes on each session to share with parents, who review the information with their son or daughter. Joe says the program continues to evolve as more athletes discover the power of one on one mentoring.
