This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Brad McClellan learned the art of saddle making while working alongside his stepdad in high school and gained ideas and techniques, which helped with establishing his own style. Later, he used these skills to open McCall Saddle Company in Vernal, a partnership with his brother, Gary, and Cal Cook, which is going strong 45 years later and supplies saddles to folks around the world.
McCall Saddle Company handmakes custom Western saddles from start to finish, built for the person and what purpose it’ll be used for. This is a lengthy and labor-intensive process that takes anywhere from 20 to 100 hours, depending on how intricate the saddle is. Brad has developed a trademark style seen on all saddles his company produces, and while custom work is their major focus, they sell standard size saddles to retailers as far away as Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
You can actually try building your own custom saddle through their website, mccallsaddle.com, with many options and features available. The McCall Saddle team is skilled at building a one-of-a-kind saddle, designed to fit your exact needs. With a diverse customer base, Brad says their largest market is women who are empty nesters and are re-learning to ride horses.
