Speaking on Business: KURU Footwear
KURU Footwear is known as one of the fastest-growing companies in Utah.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
The end of 2008 wasn’t exactly the best time to launch a business, but Bret Rasmussen didn’t let that stop him from his lifelong dream to start his own footwear company. After getting laid off from a startup company, he went to work developing the technology for what has become KURU Footwear with his dad as his business partner. At first, they were running the business from a room Bret was renting and as the business grew, he asked the landlord if he could rent the bedroom next to his.
Today KURU Footwear is known as one of the fastest-growing companies in Utah, selling a patent-protected footwear, based on a concept they developed called KURUSole Technology. It’s a sole designed to dynamically change shape to fit each wearer’s foot, delivering the support and stability of a custom orthotic but built to fit any foot comfortably. By cupping the fat pad on your heel and positioning it directly under the bone, each step is more comfortable.
Bret says KURU Footwear is designed to be all-purpose footwear, and customers love the brand, which includes shoes for men and women. It’s sold exclusively online through their website at kurufootwear.com, and business continues to grow every year with 30 employees on board.
The Speaking on Business program is now in its twentieth year.
For Zions Bank, I’m Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
