Paul Pugmire believes a great way to teach kids life lessons is through the game of golf which is why he is the executive director of the non-profit organization the First Tee of Utah.

The First Tee of Utah offers educational golf programs for kids ages 7 to 18, regardless of background or previous experience. Kids are paired with coaches trained to teach in a positive, non-threatening way, and golf equipment is provided if needed. Each lesson teaches healthy living habits and is designed to teach golf skills while helping kids develop the First Tee Nine Core Values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, responsibility, judgement, perseverance, confidence and courtesy. Research from the national First Tee program, now in its 20th year, indicates nearly all kids who complete the program credit The First Tee for helping them be better students and developing important leadership skills.

In the 6 years since the First Tee of Utah launched, they’ve reached around 20,000 kids at 30 schools with plans to more than double that number within 5 years. Paul says The First Tee of Utah is connecting the next generation to golf and is helping students become successful adults and, ultimately, great business leaders.
