Speaking On Business: Hardcastle Ranch
Hardcastle Ranch, the beef cattle operation that runs 400 cows every year, is now in the third generation of family involvement.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
With their operation, Hardcastle Ranch in Bern, Idaho, James and Shannon Hardcastle are proud to have created a place where they taught their six children, and several other family members, the value of hard work. This beef cattle operation that runs 400 cows every year is now in the third generation of family involvement.
Hardcastle Ranch has a vibrant cross breeding program, which pairs solid white Charlois bulls with Black Angus cows, creating calves that are smoky in color, born throughout the year. They have a dedicated following for their Lazy JH brand, with many repeat buyers. They sell quite a bit through a livestock video auction company, where buyers receive a catalogue of what animals are for sale, and James and Shannon’s strong reputation for providing quality animals helps drive sales.
James has been ranching for his whole life, after his parents bought their land in Bern in 1972, and Shannon joined him after they got married. Most recently, their daughter Abbie entered the family business, returning to Hardcastle Ranch after graduating from the University of Idaho with an Agriculture degree. She represents the third generation at the ranch. While the ranching lifestyle isn’t easy, James and Shannon can’t imagine doing anything else.
Zions Bank is proud to celebrate two decades of service to Idaho.
