Speaking on Business: Sylvan Furniture
Sylvan Furniture is a retail home furnishings operation in Lewiston that is now celebrating 72 years in business.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
As the owner of Sylvan Furniture in Lewiston, a retail home furnishings operation, which is now celebrating 72 years in business, Karen Shaul has always believed in supporting the community as much as she can. So, Sylvan Furniture helps many organizations, like the Chamber of Commerce, Beautiful Downtown Lewiston, the food bank, local schools and churches and the Boy Scouts.
Sylvan Furniture has a mattress department within their store. At their 38,000-square foot operation, they carry some of the top lines like La-Z-Boy, Bassett, Ashley Furniture, Tempur-Pedic, Serta and Mattress 1st, with La-Z-Boy as their top-selling lines. When it comes to selecting the right mattress, Sylvan Furniture has a machine that maps your pressure points to determine what kind of mattress you need.
Operating the furniture store is a legacy Karen inherited from her dad, Sylvan Dreifus, who opened Sylvan Furniture in 1945 after he returned from World War II. It originated in Spokane, Washington and later opened in Lewiston and now it’s the sole location.
Karen says her 16 employees are the major reason for Sylvan Furniture’s success. They’re long-term employees who know the business and furniture lines so they can help customers find exactly what they need.
