Speaking on Business: Erickson GMC
Erickson GMC has new and used cars and trucks of all makes and models as well as a full service department, body shop and auto parts.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Eric Erickson will never forget when his father, Rex Erickson, turned the keys at noon on Dec. 1, 1967 to open his brand-new dealership, Erickson GMC. The temperature sign outside said it was 21 degrees below zero, there was 18 inches of snow and the family had just moved from Nebraska. Rex put everything on the line to have his own dealership, moving his wife and four kids to a small Idaho town. Pretty audacious beginning.
Rex’s risk paid off and tomorrow, Erickson GMC in Rexburg will be celebrating their 50th anniversary. Brothers Eric and Neil Erickson are running the dealership as equals and it’s been that way since day 1, so they’ve figured out how to work together. They love their GMC product and say the GMC Sierra is their top-selling item. But that is only one part of the inventory for their 30,000 square foot dealership.
While their specialty is trucks, Erickson GMC has new and used cars of all makes and models as well as a full service department, body shop and auto parts. This is a relationship business, and it says a lot about a 50-year-old operation when their sales manager, Craig, has been there for 32 years and the service manager, Billy, for 25.
