Speaking on Business: Utah Technology Council
The Utah Technology Council is the association that is the ultimate representative for tech companies statewide.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
One of the hottest sectors of the Utah economy is our technology industry. In fact, Forbes Magazine recently ranked Salt Lake City as the next largest tech mecca in the United States, especially since the Beehive State is now home to some of the world’s most innovative information technology companies like Adobe, eBay and IM Flash Technologies. The Utah Technology Council is the association that is at the forefront of this growth as the ultimate representative for tech companies statewide.
With around 400 members, the Utah Technology Council, known as UTC, is serving everyone from startups to large enterprises. President and CEO John Knotwell says the tech community is a diverse group and UTC was developed as the voice and driving force for Utah’s technology ecosystem, which includes 6,000 companies and 125,000 employees.
In the next calendar year, the UTC plans an extensive study of this group to discover industry trends, consider diversity and look at technology education needs throughout the state, which will help solve the talent shortage facing Utah’s tech community. Their data, which has never been collected so extensively before, will be compiled into reports that can be used strategically to continue the growth pattern for the tech sector across the state.
