Speaking on Business: PSI Tops
PSI Tops is known for their extensive countertop manufacturing business.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
At the age of 18, Kelly Passey stepped in to fill a vacant office position at her father, Al Pehrson’s company, Plastic Specialties, Inc. Counter Tops in Salt Lake City, a countertop manufacturing operation. After the position she was filling opened up, Kelly jumped right in to learn the business. Now, over 30 years later, she’s taken PSI Tops into the second generation of family ownership and is engaged with carrying on her dad’s legacy.
PSI Tops is known throughout the state for their extensive countertop manufacturing business. They’ve been involved with major projects along the Wasatch Front, like the Vivint Center, Intermountain Medical Center, Hill Air Force Base and McKay-Dee Hospital. Most new business comes through word of mouth, so their quality of work speaks for itself.
In their 22,000-square-foot shop, you’ll find countertops in laminate, solid surface and stone, like Formica, Corian, quartz and granite. They do a mix of new construction and remodels for the residential market and have a strong presence in the commercial sector. While they also build cabinets, countertops are the major focus.
While founder Al Pehrson still comes in to PSI Tops, Kelly says her dad always wears flip-flops so he won’t be tempted to go into the shop.
