Speaking on Business: Pier 49 Pizza
The US hearts pizza!
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
In the U.S., we love pizza. In fact, 94 percent of us eat pizza on a regular basis, accounting for over 10 percent of all food service sales. R. Jay Ward sees this commitment every day with his business, Pier 49 Pizza in Providence, Utah
Their No. 1 selling pizza at Pier 49 Pizza in Providence is the barbecue chicken pizza, followed closely by garlic alfredo. Of course you can also find traditional pepperoni or Canadian bacon and pineapple. Pier 49 is set up so you can get pizza by the slice at lunch and there’s full or personal size pizzas available. The menu also includes salads, appetizers, wings, pasta, sandwiches, breadsticks and garlic bread, with ice cream for dessert.
R. Jay’s family has been involved with Pier 49 Pizza for 16 years, so he grew up working in the business, starting at the tender age of 14. He worked his way up through the company and two years ago, the Providence location went up for sale so he bought it and has watched it steadily grow.
The pizza business is competitive, but R. Jay says Pier 49 Pizza sets themselves apart by offering a high-quality pizza that uses sourdough crust made daily in store with only the best toppings.
