When opening their business Malstrom Salon in Salt Lake City 18 years ago, husband and wife co-owners Chris and Tricia Malstrom knew it had to be a partnership between the two of them. They started their careers working together and knew this would be an important key to their continued success. Today, their business is thriving, working at full capacity with 14 employees.
Chris says the team is up to date on all the latest hair styles and trends. Malstrom Salon is an Aveda concept salon, so they use the product line and have quarterly training from Aveda. Chris was first introduced to the line when he was in beauty school, and he believes strongly in the product. The newest Aveda hair color is over 90 percent naturally derived, so it has more natural ingredients than any other line they’ve released previously, and this is what is used in the salon.
This is a relationship-based business, which Chris says is an important factor in Malstrom Salon’s growth. He and Tricia have developed solid relationships with clients and employees, even throwing wedding and bridal showers. That’s one reason they have long-term employees, including one who has been on board for 16 years. Their growth has also been steady throughout the years, even during the economic downturn.
