Speaking on Business: Musser Brothers Auctions and Real Estate
Musser Brothers specialize in auctions for industrial and agriculture equipment and real estate.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Growing up in a family of auctioneers made things a little different for Jake Musser of Musser Brothers Auctions and Real Estate. Instead of lining toy cars up to race, he’d line them up to auction. He’s now a third-generation auctioneer and is running the Treasure Valley operation of Musser Brothers, which is celebrating their 60th anniversary this year.
Jake calls Musser Brothers a marketing firm for assets. They specialize in auctions for industrial and agriculture equipment and real estate. Diversification has been a key to their success, and earlier this year they purchased a truck and auto auctions business, where they can service lending institutions or dealerships looking to sell their vehicles. They’re already moving up to 200 vehicles a month.
Jake’s grandfather, Robert Musser, started the company in Cody, Wyoming in 1956. In the farm-centric economy, he saw the need and started a small estate sales business. Within a short time, he was booking multiple auctions a week and, later, he founded an auctioneering school where he trained many auctioneers who are still conducting business today.
Jake says reputation and experience are two of the factors that set Musser Brothers Auctions and Real Estate apart. He also appreciates having a separate generation of mentors, including his father, Scott, as a reference.
