Speaking on Business: DownEast Idaho
DownEast is known for selling name brand liquidated clothing and has a strong following for their own DownEast brand.
This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
The Freedman brothers, Charlie, Bill and Jonathan, actually started selling clothing out of the back of their car and now, 25 years later, they’re celebrating the anniversary of their business, DownEast, with 64 stores in 7 states and 1,000 employees. And eight of those stores are in Idaho alone.
The Freedman brothers and their dad, Gene, are still involved with the business, which has tripled in size in the last six years. The senior management team meets weekly to make important strategy decisions, which has been another key to their success. They’re also working to develop a strong social media following.
DownEast is known for selling name brand liquidated clothing and has a strong following for their own DownEast brand. Diversification of their product line has been critical to their success to allow them to weather the ups and downs of the retail business. DownEast also has a dedicated following for their own furniture line and is one of the only liquidation partners for a well-known national brand of furniture. Company CEO Klane Murphy says they’re celebrating their anniversary in a big way with exciting sales and promotions on clothing and furniture … starting this week.
Giving back to the community is another important part of DownEast with partnerships like the Live for Pink campaign and Choice Humanitarian.
