The wine industry in Idaho continues to gain traction with great natural resources that are sustaining world-class vineyards, now generating an economic impact of approximately $170 million. Joe Schnerr and his wife Melanie Krause are proud to be part of this successful and growing industry with their business, Cinder Wines in Garden City.
Cinder Wines sources from six different vineyards, all in the Snake River Valley, where they make 8,000 cases of wine sold throughout Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and other locations in the Northwest. Their signature red wines are the Syrah and Pentranillo while the signature white wine is Viognier. The climate in the valley, which has also been designated as an American Viticulture Area, leads to a high-quality grape, which is the basis for their outstanding wines.
Joe and Melanie founded Cinder Wines 10 years ago. Melanie has a dual degree in biology and Spanish, and got involved in the wine industry in Washington state, where she mentored under phenomenal winemakers. She was inspired to open a winery of her own. A Boise native, she saw the developing industry’s potential in Idaho, especially with the Snake River Valley AVA designation, and decided to locate there.
Cinder Wines has grown to include 15 employees and is a family business with Melanie’s dad as their winery engineer.
