This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
In 1980 Melinda Madsen decided it was time to go into business for herself. So, with a $1,000 loan, she started a head hunting business, which later morphed into a temporary employment service. Her hard work paid off and 36 years later, the company she started, American Staffing, is now in the third generation of family ownership and has a staff of 36 employees with just under 5,000 temporary employees.
Melinda’s grandson Craig Taylor is the president and part owner of this thriving Meridian company, which has seven offices in three states. American Staffing offers three main services: temporary employees, temp to hire and payroll only.
Providing quality temporary employees is the largest part of their business where they fill positions based on vacations, illness or short-term employment needs. Clients love having this option to find an employee for an immediate need with all expenses covered by American Staffing. Temp to Hire allows clients and employees to check the fit before filling a regular employment position.
Craig says there’s stiff competition in this business, so American Staffing makes it a point to be involved in their clients’ businesses so they understand what they want or need in an employee. They also have an extensive interviewing and screening process for all applicants.
