Gooding County is located in south central Idaho and is a leading producer of dairy in the state. Over the past 20 years, the counties of south central Idaho have experienced steady population and employment growth. In that time, Gooding County’s population has risen 10.5 percent to 15,185, and its employment has grown by 21.6 percent. Agriculture employs the largest share of workers in the county; however, from 2013 to 2016, employment in the education and health services sector grew the most at nearly 50 percent. The unemployment rate of Gooding County is typically lower than Idaho’s, and, as of 2015, the county’s per capita income was the 2nd highest in the state at $55,281.
