Meet Chantel Chase, the director of Zions Bancorporation’s Business Banking Loan Center. Anyone who spends time with Chantel can tell immediately she cares deeply about her family, her employees, and our community.

I was so impressed learning how she led the U.S. Small Business Administration Paycheck Protection Program for Zions Bancorporation’s Business Banking Loan Center, which processed 44,000 loans totaling $6.8 billion — making us the No. 9 bank in the nation in getting these loans approved.

She did this while transitioning her employees to working from home, homeschooling two teenage boys and entertaining her preschooler!

When the realities of the pandemic hit hard and everything felt upside-down for all of us, Chantel was laser focused on saving jobs and supporting businesses in our communities.

Chantel is down-to-earth, authentic, and engaging. Her personal slogan is: It isn’t necessarily what you do that matters, but how you do it that counts. I could have spent hours getting to know her better.

Here is a glimpse of our conversation.

What makes you a unique person in the world?

I can find joy in the journey. That doesn’t mean it is always easy, but I look at challenges knowing I’ll be better off having gone through them. That perspective helps me to seek growth in every opportunity.

I also have a unique passion that my family shares. I have two teenage boys and a 4-year-old daughter. When my boys were younger, we found a way to keep them active and enjoy family time together. We became runners. My husband, sons, and I completed four half marathons last year! Our daughter is anticipating the day she can run through the finish line with us, but until then she’s our biggest cheerleader!

What motivates and inspires you?

Nothing inspires and motivates me more than watching someone experience themselves doing something they didn’t think possible. That moment when someone tastes success while being out of their comfort zone. Seeing that fire in others and celebrating their win fuels me. It’s my favorite part about being a mother. Watching my kids grow and accomplish new personal records is where it’s at for me.

I am also inspired by kindness, gratitude, respect and humility. I am equally inspired by people with willingness to try and passion to do. These qualities are key drivers for me, and I think they are important. Being teachable and vulnerable is as critical for growth and being bold and going for it is the only way to make it happen.

Why do you love working for Zions Bancorporation?

I always wanted to be a banker. As a young girl I had an aunt who was a banker. She brought me to work with her. Seeing her on the phone, talking with clients and everywhere we went she knew people. I wanted to be like her, and because I saw her doing it I knew it was possible for me to as well. She was my role model and has been a great mentor for me.

I feel fortunate to have known at the age of eight what I wanted to be. Zions has allowed that dream to come true. I have loved every single role I’ve served in at our great company. Each one brought unique challenges and has shaped the banker and person I am today. None of them were easy, all expanded my comfort zone and taught me about who I am and who I want to be.

I have an enormous amount of respect and trust in our leadership and people to do right by our customers, our employees and our shareholders. Zions has become part of who I am and I am proud to be a Zions Banker.

In a predominately male industry, I’ve loved that diversity and inclusion aren’t just important but they are a focus of our organization. We value the unique contribution of each team member as they contribute to the success of the whole.
