Take 5 with Zions Talent: Becky Fortune
Our Agile Transformation Leader discusses what makes her unique, her greatest accomplishment and why she loves working at Zions.
Meet Rebecca Fortune. Becky joined Zions Bancorporation’s Enterprise Technology and Operations team in September 2019, moving from San Antonio to Salt Lake City. Becky has a very unique role in our organization, serving as our Agile Transformation Leader.
Agile transformation is defined as moving an organization towards one that can embrace and thrive in a flexible, collaborative, self-organizing, and fast changing environment. Our IT organization is committed to delivering value to our business lines quickly and frequently. Becky is responsible for facilitating this change and coaching our team members to become proficient in Agile Methodology.
I enjoyed getting to know Becky and was reminded again of the brilliant and kind people that work at Zions. Becky stood out to me as someone who trusts her intuition, has tremendous professional credibility, and who cares deeply about her work.
Here is a brief summary of our conversation.
What makes you a unique person?
I have been involved in software development for 28 years. I have been a developer, project and program manager, and now an Agile coach. I think I have been successful because I am able to connect dots very quickly and always have a bigger vision of what can be accomplished.
I also seek out every opportunity I can to learn and grow. I have been blessed to work with many incredible professionals who have taught me so much over the years. They have inspired me, as well as humbled me, to demonstrate more empathy and vulnerability as a leader and a friend.
What motivates and inspires you?
People! People have always inspired me which is specifically why I began focusing my career as an Agile coach. I enjoy mentoring and supporting others to advance in what’s important to them or overcome challenges that prevent joy in their work. This has filled my bucket for years.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Definitely my two teenage daughters, Kendall and Katy. Every time I look at them, I realize purpose and gratitude.
Why do you love working at Zions?
Working at Zions Bancorporation has been a great experience. I have enjoyed meeting incredibly talented people. I have sincerely appreciated our leadership addressing things head on with transparency, empathy, and caring that you can genuinely feel. This has been so incredibly important in our current environment.
The culture of family first is also a blessing. As a single mom, I feel very supported by my team, peers, and leaders. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead!
