SALT LAKE CITY, Utah; December 11, 2013 — Last-minute holiday shoppers can take advantage of a proven tool this season. Bargain hunters have earned more than a million point-of-sale cash back opportunities through Zions Bank’s Cash Rewards mobile app in the first year since its launch.
Instead of clipping and carrying coupons, shoppers can use the app for “show your phone” point-of-sale coupons as well as cash back rewards, which are earned when a qualifying transaction is made using a Zions Bank Visa card at a participating merchant location.
The Zions Cash Rewards app, developed by Access Development, features deals at hundreds of retail shops, local and national restaurants, hotels, automotive service providers, golf courses and more, throughout the state of Utah. There are more than 1,480 merchants offering cash back rewards and close to 1,700 offering instant savings.
Of those merchants, more than 418 are from the Salt Lake Valley and include DownEast Home & Clothing ($8 back on $80), Avenues Yoga ($10 back on $99), Santa Pasta (50 percent reward), Tricked Out Accessories ($3 back on $25), Granite Bakery (10 percent reward), Salt City Float Spa (50 percent reward), Plato’s Closet (10 percent reward), and Vitaminerals (20 percent reward).
The app separates the two types of deals, so users know when to present their phone, and when to simply pay with their Zions Bank Visa card. Participating merchants can be found by category, GPS location, maps, recent searches, or a user-designated favorites list. Other features include a savings tracker and alerts for new merchant offers.
“We want to provide tremendous value to our customers that goes beyond mobile banking functions,” said Rob Brough, Zions Bank executive vice president. “With the Zions Cash Rewards app, we are helping our cardholders save money on the purchases they make every day, while promoting businesses in the communities Zions Bank serves.”
The Zions Cash Rewards mobile app is free and available for download on Android and Apple devices. To view a list of participating rewards merchants, visit www.ZionsCashRewards.com.
The app launched with global mobile coupon users at 34.7 million in 2012. Projected growth for 2014 is 53.2 million users according to an eMarketer report.
Unlike other bankcard rewards programs, Zions Cash Rewards does not require redemption of points or miles. There are no caps on total rewards, so the potential for cash back earnings is unlimited.
While mileage- or points-based programs are typically funded by the issuing financial institution, Zions Cash Rewards rebates are based on offers made by merchants. For example, Granite Bakery offers a 10 percent reward. At the point of sale, the cardholder pays full price for the product or service. On behalf of the merchant, the reward is then electronically posted to the cardholder’s Zions Cash Rewards account, where he or she can view account activity at any time by logging in to Zions Internet Banking or www.ZionsCashRewards.com. PIN based transactions do not qualify so cardholder must sign for the purchase.
Rewards are automatically credited to the client’s credit card or checking account within 45 days of the qualifying purchase and will appear on the monthly statement. Cardholders pay no out-of-pocket costs and no annual fees.
All Zions Bank Visa credit and debit cards are automatically enrolled in the Zions Cash Rewards program. When utilizing the savings app, message and/or data rates from wireless providers may apply.
