Buy Bonds at Institutional Prices
In a typical broker and individual investor relationship, the individual investor most always buys bonds at what is referred to as the retail price. The retail price includes a markup from the institutional price; the price the broker purchased the bond from the bond dealer. With Bonds for Less, individual investors buy bonds at institutional prices or the same price brokers buy from bond dealers or other brokers - the institutional price.

Buying Bonds at The Retail Price

The markup individual investors' pay reduces the yield on investment, which reduces the income received. By buying and investing in bonds at institutional prices, individual investors receive a higher yield and more income than would have been received for the same bond purchased with a markup from a broker. See how a markup impacts the yield received.

Impact on Yield

Purchase of 50 U.S. Treasury bonds ($50,000 face value) on 8/15/05, which mature 8/15/07.
Retail trade includes a $500 markup. The above Example is for illustrative purposes only.

In general, the bond market is volatile, bond prices rise when interest rates fall and vice versa. This effect is usually pronounced for longer-term securities. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to a substantial gain or loss. Some bonds have call features that may affect income. Diversification does not ensure a profit or guarantee against loss. Zions Direct, or Zions First National Bank reserves the right to act as principal on any fixed income transaction, public offering or any other securities transaction. A markup may be included in the price for Corporate Bonds, Municipal Bonds, U.S. Treasury and Agency, Bills, Notes, Bonds and CDs. As with other investments, there are risks involved when investing in new securities offerings. Neither Zions Direct, Zions First National Bank nor any underwriter in an offering is recommending or endorsing any offering through Zions Direct. Your decision to invest in any new issues is based on your own consideration of the risks involved, investment objectives for the account, risk tolerance, financial condition, liquidity needs, and other individual investment considerations.
